Studied graphics at the academy of Arts St Joost in Breda.
Started to work as a sculptor in 1996 at the Ceramic Work Centre in s’Hertogenbosch.

ceramicAt the summer exhibition »Isola del lago« in 2006 Carolein Smit impressed the visitors of the Isola Bella with an approx. 60-cm high, white glazed ceramic figure. The figure set with a multitude of fine hairs shaped like icicles points with outstretched finger at the visitors and seems to warn them to stay on the threshold. Spoerri, who had long wanted a grotto for his park, had a cave constructed by Enrico Alessandri, in which the Magdalene now leads a hermetic existence.
