The Seer
1996/97
350 x 120 x 140 cm
bronze, travertine
Like Othello and Desdemona (39), the Seer is also the collaboration of a couple. Esther Seidel created the man with closed eyes, who, standing behind the tree trunks and branches, yet appears to avoid the gaze into the distance. However, he is barefoot and thus considerably closer to nature than his coat would suggest. The protective space, a niche made from travertine panels, was erected by Patrick Steiner.

The Visitor
1998/2000
bronze
There are, without a doubt, many places in the Giardino in which one would like to tarry in order to soak in the complete combined ambience of the landscape, the light and the works. Esther Seidel’s visitor gets to fulfil this desire. He stands on a viewing tower, which allows him to see the »labyrinthine wallpath« from above. But is he really observing it? He doesn’t appear to notice the unmistakeable Arman pyramid either. He only sees the images inside his head.
In the sculpture »The Seer« (No.32) we encounter this inward-looking gaze once again. The physiognomical similarity of the two figures is obvious, and we might think that the same man is standing at different spots all at once. In the Giardino, time and space behave differently to outside the entrance gates.
