Born in 1939 at Pistoia. Since 1977 he has been living in Florence. He vividly examined classical painting. One of the typical elements that can be found in his paintings as well as in his sculptures are blindfolded men. Sculptures by Roberto Barni can be found in several public collections, e.g. at Giuliano Gori´s »Fattoria di Celle«.

Two adults on a child’s toy. They are in a position mid-stride, but can hardly move forward. Perhaps they have covered their eyes in order not to disappoint their illusion of progress. »Altalena« (ital.: seesaw) is also used in a figurative sense to mean a fluctuating mood. Barni’s figures, however, do not appear indecisive. They do not seesaw up and down, they take large strides. In music, the term »Continuo« means constant accompaniment provided by the bass instruments. The title is a contrast to the seesaw movement to the brevity of the moment, as the seesaw is in equilibrium. This moment has been made permanent in Barni’s sculpture and contradicts the physical sensation which is associated with the seesaw: a tipping that causes a funny feeling in the stomach.
