The various items lie together in Duwen’s work as if on an illegal dump site: car tyres, various rods, a ripped suitcase, a broken ladder, a washing basket and a dead cat that becomes just one object among many. These refuse items are made of bronze, contradicting a notion of putrefaction and decay. Let us also not forget that we have obtained important information about past cultures through the examination of antique or pre-historic rubbish dumps. A medieval rubbish damp makes an archaeologist’s eyes light up because it provides evidence of the everyday lives of our ancestors.
