Monument to Settledness
Monument to Settledness

This project was long in the planning. Letters, faxes, telephone conversations went to and fro, and a number of journeys to Nice were necessary (thanks once again to Reto a Marca) until on 23 June 2000 the towering accumulation of old ploughs and harrows was erected. Arman calls the tower a »Monument to Settledness«, because the machines are the insignia of soil management and thus also of Settledness. But the instruments of colonisation are wedged in amongst each other and screwed together, immovable and useless. They are stuck, they are »old iron«, while the unmistakeable sound of modern agricultural machines can be heard from the surrounding hills.
