The form of this sculpture may seem familiar, because it is modelled on the stem of a common horsetail (»equisetum«). Typical features are the intersecting segments. Photography offers a prototype for such enlargements from the plant world: the plant photographs of Karl Bloßfeldt, which were made to document a teaching collection. The ceramicist Birgit Neumann believes clay to be a particularly suitable material for working with vegetation themes: »Both are things that are provided by the earth. I could not have made these things out of any other material.«
