Natures mortes (Rifiuti)

Spoerri has taken the French name for still-life, „nature mort“, seriously, inspired by the „dead nature“ he saw in the country. He used mummified dead animals and skeletons (Exhibition with these works in the Galerie Bischofberger). Here we can see a transition to his Ticino period, where instead of rummaging around flea markets, he searched through garbage dumps and was surprised to discover, that Ticino’s wealthy summer guests left very precious trash behind: clothing, kitchen appliances.
