It is a principle of the works of Daniel Spoerri to react to found things,
for example “to interpret” pictures from the flea market by
inserting objects, as he calls it. In the case of the “Criminal
Investigations” the starting point was a book with photographs from
police archives. Spoerri was fascinated by the fact that almost every
object can become a “murder weapon” if it is shown together
with the depiction of an act of violence.
He had photos enlarged as scanachromes onto canvas and used these then
as the background of his pictures.
