In 1989 Daniel Spoerri stepped down from his chair at the university in
Munich, that is he resigned in favor of greater artistic freedom. Together
with his wife Katharina Duwen he bought an approx. 40-acre tract of land
in Tuscany. First the buildings were renovated, because the property had
lain idle for 10 years. But soon thereafter Spoerri began to install several
bronze sculptures on the property. One can see how all of this continued
to develop on the web-site of the Giardino.
